New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
Hi there, thank you for stopping in and visiting my new website. I put this together because I wanted to have a landing page for my work in the town of Hartford and to give folks a place to get to know me.
You may have already met me, but if not let me tell you a bit about myself. My full name is Rebecca White, but I like being called Becca. I grew up in the village of Wilder and attended school locally, graduating from Hartford High School in 2011. I went on to study and graduate from the University of Vermont with a Bachelors in History. My partner Dylan and I bought our home in White River Junction last year, and in April of this year got married!
While at UVM I was an active member of the Lawrence Debate Union and had the opportunity to travel internationally to compete in forensic tournaments. I interned for both the Vermont Commission on Women and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England during my senior year. During my summers I worked for the Vermont Public Interest Research Group as a canvasser on issues like "Clean Heat," "GMO Labeling," and "Taking Big Money out of Politics."
Currently, I work for SunCommon, a mission driven solar company out of Waterbury Center as a community organizer. Feel free to wave if you see my blue and green sun themed Prius driving around town!
I was elected to the Select Board for a 2-year term in March of 2015, and then re-elected in 2017. I act as the liaison to the School Board, the Hartford Committee on Racial Inequality, and worked closely with the Energy Commission. I also serve on the Vermont League of Cities and Town's Board of Directors which is state wide board of local elected officials.
While on the Select Board I have steered the town through the hiring process of a new Town Manager, the addition of an Energy Coordinator, three fiscal year budgets being passed by the town, a charter commission process, and recently the important step to create a committee to address implicit bias in our local leadership.
I serve as the Chair of the Hartford Democrats, on the Executive Committee for the Windsor County Democrats, and as a State Delegate to the Vermont Democratic Party. I completed the rigorous and exciting Emerge Vermont program in 2016, which is a year-long course to prepare women for elected office. I now serve as a member of the Emerge Vermont Advisory Board.
I am an active member of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Hartland, and identify as an Atheist Unitarian Universalist. However, I was raised in a multi-denominational family with a focus on Tibetan Buddhism while I was young.
On a lighter note I enjoy riding my bike around town, listening to VPR, working on home projects, and snuggling with our family cat Ms. Kitty. I am truly lucky to have an extremely supportive husband, a loving family that lives less than 2 miles away, and a group of incredibly diverse and smart friends.
